Transition – The Shift (Feature-Length Screenplay)
Transition – The Shift is a story born from lived experience, generational memory, and the spiritual battles that often go unseen. Adapted from my book Transition, this screenplay explores what it means to survive emotional trauma, spiritual warfare, and the weight of relationships that shift our identity. The story follows Cheymarie’s evolution from childhood to adulthood as she navigates love, betrayal, family history, and the supernatural shadows that attempt to derail her purpose.
In writing this film, I wanted to reflect the realities that many people endure but rarely speak about—cycles of dysfunction, heartbreak disguised as love, and the spiritual undercurrents that shape our relationships. The film spans multiple generations, showing how early wounds, family patterns, and buried pain can echo into our adult lives. It begins rooted in family tension, childhood innocence, and the struggle for stability, then gradually shifts into a complex psychological and spiritual journey as Cheymarie grows into a woman seeking success, faith, and emotional safety.
At its heart, Transition – The Shift is about what happens when love becomes a battlefield—emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Cheymarie’s relationship with Viernmo becomes the catalyst for the “shift” in her life, exposing hidden warfare, jealousy, manipulation, and the battle between destiny and distraction. As supernatural elements begin to emerge, the film portrays how spiritual attacks often show up through people, choices, and unresolved pasts. The screenplay weaves realism with spiritual symbolism to illustrate that heartbreak is not always human—it can be generational, internal, or influenced by forces unseen.
Stylistically, this film moves through tones: nostalgic, dramatic, romantic, tense, and finally empowering. I wanted the audience to witness the slow build from everyday life to spiritual confrontation, mirroring how trauma often enters quietly before revealing its full weight. The narrative also highlights the tension between personal growth and relational turmoil, and how sometimes the most dangerous relationships are those that feel familiar. My goal with this project is to spark conversations about emotional boundaries, spiritual awareness, and the courage it takes to walk away from what is destroying you. This film is not only a story of survival—it is a story of awakening. It reminds viewers that sometimes the greatest transformation begins when you face the darkness and choose yourself.
Ultimately, Transition – The Shift is a testimony about rising from spiritual attack, heartbreak, and generational cycles with resilience, clarity, and grace. I hope audiences see their own moments of transition within this story and feel empowered to confront the hidden battles in their lives—and shift.
In writing this film, my intention was to portray the kind of emotional trauma that doesn’t always look dramatic on the surface, yet lingers in the memory. It’s the hurt that comes from unmet expectations, from wanting to be cherished but settling for someone who isn’t ready or able to offer the same depth. I wanted to give space to the quiet resilience required to walk away from relationships that don’t honor your spirit.
Stylistically, the narrative focuses on small moments—conversations, silences, and subtle shifts that mirror the internal transitions Cheymarie experiences. The heart of the film isn’t in grand gestures, but in the reality of moving forward even when closure feels incomplete.
Ultimately, Transition – The Traumatic Lover is about the courage to continue believing in love after being disappointed by it. My hope is that viewers see their own stories reflected in Cheymarie’s journey and feel empowered to honor their boundaries, their healing, and their transitions.
Transition – The Traumatic Lover
Transition – The Traumatic Lover was born from a deeply personal space—a place where love, loss, timing, and emotional resilience meet. Adapted from my book Transition, this short film explores how relationships that never fully form can still leave lasting marks on the heart. I wanted to examine the emotional terrain between hope and disappointment, attraction and avoidance, connection and the quiet ache of what could have been. The story follows Cheymarie, a woman navigating the subtle heartbreak of an almost- relationship—one that began during a moment of family loss and spiritual reflection. Her uncle’s passing becomes the catalyst for meeting someone who seems promising, gentle, and respectful. But as their connection unfolds, the promise of love slowly unravels. The relationship doesn’t turn into the meaningful bond she prayed for; instead, it becomes a lesson in letting go.
